PRWI Schedule

BACKGROUND

On March 16, 2009, your chapter should have received an email from the Executive Office introducing the PRWI competition that will be held at the 2009 annual conference (August 5-8) in Brooklyn, New York. That communication 1) asked chapters to determine if they wished to participate in the competition and, if so, 2) suggested nominees prepare themselves by doing some research and conduct an interview. That email may be accessed and reviewed here.

It is now time to register for PRWI.

REGISTRATION

Chapter nominees should take the following sequential steps to register for PRWI:

  1. Commit to attending the 2009 annual conference by registering here
  2. Complete the preconference research and interview described here
  3. Summarize that research and interview in a two-page single space Word document (that will be uploaded via the reporting intranet). That document should include the name, title and contact information of the NFPO official(s) interviewed.
  4. Gather the following information:

    • Personal information
      Student's name
Contact information (email and cell phone)
      Major(s)
Grade Point Averages (Overall and in major(s) using a 4.0 scale

    • BAP Chapter Information
      Chapter number
Chapter offices held by the nominee (if any)
Faculty Advisor's name (at the time the competition will be held) and title

    • School Information
      University name
School or department name and address
      Dean's name and title
Address (to which checks/plaques should be mailed if won)

  5. Register by 1) completing the questionnaire and 2) upload your research/interview summary. Note: Only chapter's Reporter will be able to upload an electronic copy. For your reporter's information only, that process will require the reporter to:

    • Access the "Reaching Out Activities" screen
    • Select PRWI Box
    • Respond to the prompt, "Select the file to be uploaded"
    • Highlight the file and select "Attach File."

ACCEPTANCE

We expect the number of applicants will exceed the 60 available positions. The ultimate participants will be selected according to the prioritized criteria below:

We are aware that early notification may allow participants to obtain lower-cost transportation to Brooklyn. Our plan is to notify all applicants of their status (selected or not selected) as soon as possible but definitely by May 31st.

PREPARATION

Participants must arrive in Brooklyn, N.Y on Wednesday, August 5th. The PRWI orientation will begin at 7:00 PM and include 1) an overview of the competition, 2) a detailed schedule of events, 3) announcement of team assignments, and 4) an information session wherein the NFPO representatives will define the specific problem/issue they want you to address. Our hope is that other judges will also attend this session.

After the orientation, team members will probably want to 1) become acquainted, 2) agree upon a timetable, and 3) begin their detailed research. Internet access will be provided.

On Thursday, August 6th, all team members are expected to participate in BAP's Community Service Day. Thereafter, team members most probably will forgo other conference events so they may complete their research and prepare their presentation. Presentations must be completed by Thursday midnight and delivered on a flash drive (provided by Moss Adams LLP) to either Bill Wells or Tina Caratan.

COMPETITION

On Friday morning, August 7th, in three separate rooms, each team will present its recommendations to 1) a judging team composed of the NFPO representative(s), a Moss Adams partner and an impartial faculty advisor, and 2) an audience of approximately 50-70 students, faculty and other interested persons. For each NFPO problem/issue, one winning team will be selected. International Forum members will moderate these sessions.

RECOGNITION

On Saturday, August 8th, team members should be present during closing ceremonies where PRWI awards will be presented and pictures taken.

After the BAP conference has adjourned, Moss Adams will host a lunch for the 12 winning students and their faculty advisors for those not leaving immediately after the meeting concludes. The judges will also be invited to this lunch.

Within two to three weeks after the conference has ended, BAP will:

IN CONCLUSION

We first thank Palms For Life Fund, Arts and Business Council of NY, and Creative Alternatives of NY, the three NFPO for sharing issues, participating, presenting, judging, and meeting with participants after the competition. Without their involvement, this competition would not be possible.

We also thank all chapters, advisors, and especially the students for your willingness to participate in PRWI. We believe you will agree with our 2008 participants that the time spent was intellectually challenging, personally fulfilling, worth the time investment, and resume enhancing.

If you have any questions relating to the project, we encourage you to communicate those to BAP's Executive Office. They will respond to your questions though an FAQ communication which will also be posted to the BAP web site.
