Subject:The Benefits of an Academic Career in Accounting Panel Session – Presenters AAA

Dear Beta Alpha Psi Faculty Advisor,

I am chairing the Program Planning Committee for the 2005 AAA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.  Given the shortage of new terminally-qualified candidates in accounting, the AAA has put together a panel session on “The Benefits of an Academic Career in Accounting” for presentation at the Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting immediately before the AAA Annual Meeting.  We will be offering two panels – one for Beta Alpha Psi advisors (many of whom we understand are not terminally qualified) and one for students.  I will be moderating the panels, and the panelists are Christine Botosan (University of Utah), Mark Bradshaw (Harvard University), and Carolyn Callahan (University of Arkansas).

I am writing to ask you to ask you to do two things.  First, if you don't have a Ph.D., please consider attending the session for Beta Alpha Psi faculty advisors on Saturday, August 6 th , from 8-8:50 am.  Second, regardless of whether you choose to attend the first panel session, please encourage the student representatives from your school to attend the session for students on Saturday, August 6th, from 9-9:50 am.  We intend to offer informative and lively sessions and we hope our effort will contribute in some small way to alleviating the shortage of new entrants into our profession.

We hope you will choose to attend the session we are putting together, and we truly appreciate any encouragement you could offer your students to attend these sessions.

Sincerely,

Joseph V. Carcello
Chair, Program Committee, 2005 AAA Annual Meeting
