First Call for Student Presenters for the 2009 Annual Meeting

To: Beta Alpha Psi Chapters:

The2009 BAP Annual Meeting will be held in Brooklyn, New York on August 6-8 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. Involvement by chapters and their members is an essential ‘value added’ ingredient in each year’s annual meeting.

As a way to best match the program topics and needs with your interests and skills, we are asking chapters interested in presenting at the 2009 annual meeting to complete the attached form and return it as soon as possible, but no later than December 15, 2008.

We will continue successful and popular sessions from prior years and we would like to add new sessions on topics you suggest. Please feel free to volunteer for one of these suggested sessions or propose a new one:

  1. Fundraising Strategies: Generating funds to provide for worthwhile chapter activities can be challenging. Chapters can share their experiences about what has worked.

  2. Outreach for New Members Who Will Add Value to the Chapter: This session will also allow for sharing of ideas on how to attract these students to pledge and, subsequently, how to sustain their interest level as active members.

  3. Identifying the Critical Success Factors in Maintaining a Dynamic Chapter: This session will share ideas of how to identify and then implement these factors. Special challenges exist for large and small chapters.

  4. Developing Effective Leaders: A roundtable discussion of how to identify new leaders for your chapter, the essential qualities for effective leadership, and how to encourage members to take leadership roles.

  5. Operational Workshops for Chapter (a) Treasurers, (b) Faculty Advisors, (c) Reporters, and (d) Presidents: Experienced representatives of each of these offices that will be available for anyone with specific help or assistance that is needed. (If your chapter prefers one of the workshops, please note both the number 5 and letter (a, b, c, d) in the space provided on the interest form).

  6. Alumni Relations: How to Enjoy Benefits Resulting from Developing and Maintaining these Contacts: Let’s share ideas regarding your chapter’s efforts to tap this valuable resource.

  7. Preparing Members for the Work Place: A practical session for sharing successful programs that your chapter holds to prepare members for entering the working world. This can include anything from resume writing, mock interviews, dress for success, dining etiquette, etc. We are looking for ideas that are unique in some way. Please indicate your program topic on the interest form.

  8. Hosting a Successful Meet the Firms Night: If your chapter currently hosts a Meet the Firms Night, share your experiences and practical tips with others who are interested in starting or expanding a similar event. What has worked for you? What obstacles did you face? What would you do differently?

  9. Expanding BAP Internationally: A roundtable discussion for domestic chapters with connections to AACSB accredited universities outside the U.S. to generate ideas for developing new international chapters. Please indicate the university where you have a connection on the interest form.

  10. Running a Successful VITA Program: If you chapter is currently participating in VITA, share your success and challenges during a roundtable discussion. Please indicate on the interest form the level of participation in VITA so we can have broad variety on the panel (run a site for the community, run a site for university students, send volunteers to a community site, etc.).

  11. Creating Meaningful Service Projects: If your chapter has developed a successful service project (other than VITA) for your school community, local community, or larger community, share your experiences with other chapters who are looking to expand their service opportunities.

  12. Proposed Session: If you have an idea for a session that you believe other BAP chapters will be interested in, please send us a one paragraph summary or description similar to those provided for items 1-11.

You will be notified by mid-January 2009 regarding the session you have been assigned. Please note that you will be required to submit a one-paragraph abstract of your plans for any assigned session by February 16, 2009.

Please note that this interest form does not relate to Best Practices or Project Run With It presentations. Information on the Project Run With It and Best Practice presentations is available on the BAP website at www.bap.org or you can contact your Director-at-Large.
Thanks in advance for helping us get an early start on the meeting planning!
